Beyond a Sheltered Life

by Brianna G. Harte

Finally it’s time to peep out

Of the only shelter I’ve ever known.

Who knows what lies beyond the ground

That blanketed me since birth?

As I inch up toward the surface,

Strength fuels my cells.

I tell myself I’m ready,

Never more to go back.

There are mysteries I need to see,

A new home for me to explore.
