Trial Marks in Blood

by Brianna G. Harte

Taking the price of innocence

And leaving hearts full of pain

Could transform the world

In terrible, grotesque ways.

Should those causing damage

Face the crimes made mundane

Or forced from desperation,

The underlying costs may begin to glow.

From financial burdens

To lives taken away

The more everlasting

May be trust and peace far gone.

All make a people bitter,

Swearing vengeance for all time,

And the former cuts at everyone

No matter which side one takes.

Can the world recover

From any destruction it sees pass?

The answer lies in each person

And in them the future holds.
